Archive and Demo Recordings
On this page we will be adding ecordings that are either deleted or rare, together with some previously unreleased songs. We'll also be adding some of the song-demos that Jamie and Evelyn recorded. Maybe we'll even find a couple of old videos to include....
Ocean Lullaby (demo)
I originally wrote Ocean Lullaby as a song for Kate Belcher to sing on the 'Etarlis' album. This demo was recorded with Kate and Andy at the Goat Shed in 2005. For me, this is one of Kate's best vocal performances. In the end we didn't use the song because the feel of it didn't sit well with the rest of the Etarlis album, and it was never completed. Jamie. Words: Jamie Field. Music: Jamie Field & Andy Garman.Copyright © 2005 & 2013. All rights reserved. Recorded by Kate Belcher, Jamie & Andy at the Goat Shed during 2005. Previously unreleased. |
Take It All Away
This song was recorded at the Goat Shed in the summer of 2003, after the release of The Mermaid Kiss Album in June and before Evelyn headed off to University in September. As was the way of things at that time, Jamie and Evelyn recorded the demo in Jamie's living room and then they took it up to the Goat Shed where this recording was made with Andy. Although the song has never been released, it was a piece we regularly performed live at our early gigs, including our very first gig at the Rock Cafe 2000 in Stourbridge where we supported Karnataka at their 2003 Christmas bash. Words and Music: Jamie Field & Evelyn Downing. Copyright © 2003 & 2013. All rights reserved. Recorded by Evelyn, Jamie and Andy at the Goat Shed, summer 2003. Previously unreleased. |
Everyday
During 2002-2003 Evelyn took a gap year and she and Jamie spent the first half of it writing and recording demos for The Mermaid Kiss Album in Jamie's living room (the second part was spent recording it.) The instruments we had were pretty basic, a Yamaha keyboard (which also served as our 'drum' machine), a £50 electric guitar with a 10watt Marshall practice amp, a bass and practice amp, flute, two acoustic guitars and various small percussion instruments. Sometimes when things weren't really flowing we'd step aside from our own material and have a bit of fun doing a cover of something random. We recorded this version of Buddy Holly's 'Everyday' in a couple of hours one afternoon. In the spirit of the time (1957) it's quite short. 1 minute 49 seconds. During it, you might just catch Evelyn sotto voce saying something like "I've forgotten how to harmonise. But do I care? No..." All instruments and voices by Evelyn & Jamie. Previously unreleased. |
Summer's Almost Gone
The very first track we ever had on a 'proper' CD, Summer's Almost Gone is a cover of a song by The Doors from their 1968 album Waiting For The Sun. We saw an advert asking for covers of Doors songs for inclusion on a compilation CD and whilst none of the three of us were Doors fans, Evelyn's dad was, and we raided his vinyl collection to try and find a song suited to our sound. The album "Love Her Madly: New Women Artists Cover The Doors" was released on the US Skipping Discs label in 2002 (SKD002). Given the nature of the project title, the track was issued under Evelyn's name. Recorded by Evelyn, Jamie and Andy at the Goat Shed circa 2001. |
